What TV Card should I get

I am upgrading to Vista and my Blackgold PCI cards are not supported. So whjat TV card should i look for?
I want dual DVB-T, and my PC is PCI only so that rules out any PCI Express cards.
Have anybody got any suggestions?

  1. Chris, Blackgold told me that 2 cards are not supported to I would have to use only one and I can’t manage with one card

  2. I can understand the need for two cards as I myself run two! I’ve got the blackgold running alongside a pinnacle media center 300i. They seem to co-exist happily together though I would say that the pinnacle seems to be far more fussy about weak signals and drops out a lot more easily.

  3. Maybe it would be useful to come up with a list of cards that work in vista, single or dual as i will too be concidering upgrading but have no idea which cards will be compatible..

  4. Blackgold have a dual DVB-T PCI card coming out soon.

As far as I know it is pretty much the same as their PCI-E card but using the good old PCI form factor.

The current blackgold drivers (v6.0.15) support the following configurations under Vista:

    * A single PCI single tuner card.
    * A single PCI dual tuner card (still to be released).
    * Multiple PCI dual tuner cards (still to be released) with the famous registry hack.
    * A single PCI-E dual tuner card.
    * Multiple PCI-E dual tuner cards with the famous registry hack.
    * Multiple PCI-E quad tuner card (still to be released and obviously the registry hack would need to be applied to get the third the forth tuners working on the first card and any other tuner working on subsiquent cards).

I have been told by GTA that the Blackgold drivers can handle 32 tuners simulaneously.

  5. I have the hauppauge MCE 500 Nova-T that works great with MCE 2005 (fantastic PQ)I’ve read there are vista drivers but haven’t tried it with vista yet

  6. Hi – well I couldn’t login to the forum to write this – so will put it here (forgot my password and the emailing isnt working)..

I’ve been using a Avermedia 777 on my Vista x64 machine – and although these are not a dual tuner – its one the few tuner cards where the manufacturer has proper working Vista x86/x64 drivers available. (and you don’t need to wade through faqs/bs for 15 mins to find a beta driver). I also have a 2x Fusion HDTV-Lite (no drivers available for x64 – dodgy unsupported/hacked drivers for x86) – and a VisionPlus (no drivers at all) – so these are due to be ‘binned’..  I haven’t tried to use 2 Avermedia tuners at once (as its just my dev machine) – but heard this shouldn’t be an issue.

Also – not a tuner issue – but avoid anything/everything from Creative Labs – who’s Vista support has been nothing short of shocking. Some products (like their webcams) wont have drivers untill Q4/2007 – and many of their popular soundcard/webcam products will never ever have drivers made available. (so this is now throwaway hardware).

  7. Hi Ian,

I was told "We expect the PCI dual tuners to be released Feb / March" and "We don’t yet have a release time for other Quad tuners".
