Don't forget to take the Media Center Show Survey
This weeks show will be out Friday as I am at the Smart Homes show at the NEC (UK) on Thursday
NASA WorldWind on Media Center and XBOX 360Another great application from Casey Chesnut /mceWorldWind
"/mceWorldWind shows how to use NASA's WorldWind from Media Center Edition using your remote control. it also has a plugin for controlling WorldWind using an XBox 360 Wired Controller on an MCE PC, and another plugin for calling Virtual Earth's IP address location finder"
Casey is racking up the Media Center addins, and will be coming on the Media Center Show soon to talk about his experiences 2月26日 Start developing with the new Windows Media Center Presentation LayerSomething I have been waiting for since I found about the new Media Center mark up language in Vista
Charlie Owen has posted details about the new Windows Media Center Presentation Layer , this enables you to write Media Center apps that use the core Media Center display engine, so no more HTML fudges!
Charlie has posted on how to get started with Authoring Tool
2月24日 The Windows Media Center Show #46 - The Green ButtonThe Media Center Show #46 (MP3 - 18.6MB - 54mins 16secs) The Media Center Show with Orb Networks On this weeks show I have Daniel Sterling from The Green Button, one of the first and most popular community sites for Media Center. Its a little complex and involves the registry but if you having trouble with guide downloads this may help
Team Update MIX06 Media Center ProjectLast week on the show Charlie Owen talked about the Media Center Project being done at MXI06 (podcasts catcher)
Today he has detailed who will be working with him on the project
"Schematic is doing the design for the 'Q' application and will collaborate with our team to implement the visuals using Media Center Markup Language"
and
"Stephen Toub is also joining us on the project, focusing on the managed code side of the equation"
Stephen will be on the show in a couple of weeks talking about the amazing MSDN articles he wrote about Media Center
I am really looking forward so seeing there work
2月22日 Smart Home ShowAny UK readers going to the Smart Home Show at the NEC next week?
I was thinking of going to see what Media Center stuff is there, its not quite CES in Vegas but I will take a look anyway.
I should be taking my podcasting gear with me so if your going or showing something off there let me know

2月21日 This weeks Media Center Show out FridayDue to me working away for a couple of days this week show will be out Friday (24th) and not the normal Thursday slot
Hope you can manage one extra day! Tips on creating MSI files for Media Center Add-insCreating a MSI for you nice new Media Center app can be tricky, the SDK is not exactly clear on the steps.
Aaron Stebner (guest on the show last year) has posted a sample on how to create a MSI for a add-in.
He also says that the new Media Center Presentation Layer adds coming in Vista would install like ad add-in so its worth looking at his sample if you thinking about Media Center development for Vista.
If you want to know what Media Center Presentation Layer is list to Charlie Owen on last weeks show 2月20日 Do we need a Media Center Server Edition?I have been following Steve Makofsky (The Furrygoat Experience Blog) talking about how he is moving his Media Center PC in to a server roll.
Since getting his XBOX 360 he thought it made a better WAF (wife acceptability factor) than the Media Center PC.
I can see his point, still I think that Media Center connected to a TV has a good WAF and have the same step to getting in to Media Center mode as the xbox (the green button).
He has now changed his Media Center PC in to a server and put it out of the way.
So he has not got a Windows Media Center Server (complete with RAID storage). I wonder if there is demand for this to be a product line in its self, a server powering Media Center Extenders and Windows Media Connect devices.
Read about it on his blog 2月17日 Media Center Show SurveyThe Media Center Show is nearly a year old so I thought it would be a good time to put together a survey about the show. So you can tell me what you like and dislike and any topics or guest you would like to see on the show.
No registration or email address is needed just go The Survey Page and vote for your favourite show and have your say about the show
Thanks!
2月16日 Fix for DVB problemsPeter Rosser has a nice un-official fix for DVB problems
We have been getting reports about Guide problems from DVB users across Europe and the world, hopefully in time for the next Rollup release (external date not yet announced, but should be late Q1 to early Q2). The problem typically manifests itself when scheduling many shows to record, but can occur anytime. Without a code fix, you cannot work around the issue cleanly/easily, but closing the shell (Media Center UI) and restarting the "Media Center Scheduler Service" (ehsched) will reset the state of the machine
The Windows Media Center Show #45 - Dave AllesThe Media Center Show #45 (MP3 - 21.8MB - 1 Hour 3mins 39secs) The Media Center Show with Orb Networks On this weeks show I have Dave Alles, Product Unit Manager on the eHome team at Microsoft talking about Extenders, including how the idea for the original XBOX extender came about in a Redmond Brewery I also have an update from Charlie Owen about the MIX06 conference where Media Center is featuring. Send your questions and feedback to isdixon@gmail.com (feel free to send your questions in mp3) Get your Media Center Show Gear Show Times: 2月15日 The Media Center Column: #4 - VistaJust noticed my article on Media Center in Vista on Digital Home Magazines web site has been posted.
I guess I should check there web site more often as it was posted last week!
This time I focused on Media Center in Vista
Charlie Owen posts the spec of his podcast listenerCharlie has posted details on the spec for his MIX06 project "Q" a Podcast listener that is being shows / developed at MIX06
Looks like some nice features, Charlie is on this weeks show explaining what MIX06 is and why Media Center is there
2月13日 Revisiting Tim Coyle's 'I Was Right: Xbox 360 Will Kill Media Center' StatementAlexander Grundner on eHomeUpgrade has revisited Tim Coyle's post about the Xbox 360 killing Media Center (I talked about it on this blog last year)
Alexander makes a good point that the low cost Xbox 360 would hurt sales of low cost Media Center PC's
In my opinion it will not kill Media Center sales, more like drive sales of Media Center PC's as servers powering multiple devices.
My Media Center PC now powers an XBOX 360 and a Roku soundbridge, its where all my content is stored.
So its the centre of my home network and not being pushed out, I can see more people wanting to get Media Center to work with there Xbox 360's
Coming up this week...Extenders and MIX06Coming up this week on the Media Center Show:
Dave Alles, Product Unit Manager on the eHome team at Microsoft talking about Extenders, including how the idea for the original XBOX extender came about in a Seattle Brewery
I also have an update from Charlie Owen about the MIX06 conference where Media Center is featuring as well as all the Media Center news and email in to the show 2月10日 First Podcast Interview with Vista? Is this the podcast interview done on Windows Vista? I just interviews Microsoft's Charlie Owen for an item on next weeks show and Charlie has got Skype working on Windows Vista. In this post Charlie talked about how he was switching to Vista.
I have not made the move yet, but this was the first interview I have done with the guest on Vista, bet its not the last :)
2月9日 The Windows Media Center Show #44 - CES RoundupThe Media Center Show #44 (MP3 - 20.0MB - 58mins 24secs) The Media Center Show with Orb Networks This week on the show the final interviews from CES. I have the latest news, email in to the show and a chance to win mcePhone thanks to Christoph Buenger Software Send your questions and feedback to isdixon@gmail.com (feel free to send your questions in mp3) Get your Media Center Show Gear 00:50 Coming up this week 2月8日 Get Rss Feeds on XBox 360I have a fix for my RSS reader for Media Center (mNewsCenter) so it will work on Extender devices like the XBox 360
I have also tested the podcast function which works OK. So you can listen to the Media Center Show on your XBOX 360
Just download this zip file and extract the MCL file and place it in the following folder:
C:\documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Media Center\Media Center Programs
mNewsCenter should then show up in more programs on the extender
UPDATE: Broken link fixed, thanks Sean! |
