Smart Christmas lights: Using Alexa and IFTTT to control your Christmas lights

120317_0905_VideoHowtoc1[1]

Over on Thedigitallifestyle.com I have two new articles on how to use control your Holiday / Christmas lights this festive season.

I have posted how to control your Christmas lights using Amazon Alexa which makes it really easy to ask your favourite virtual assistant to turn on your Christmas lights. I also show you how you can have one simple command to turn out on your device.

Video: How to control your Christmas lights with Amazon Alexa

What if you don’t want to have to ask to turn your lights on and you actually want them to come on themselves exactly at the time it goes dark? With smart plugs you can, in my guide I show you how you can have your lights come on as it goes dark outside without using light sensors. The guide uses IFTTT and a D-Link smart plug, checkout my guide on How to set your Christmas lights to come on automatically at sunset each day IFTTT

Each post has a video walkthrough.

So no excuse, never manually switch on your lights again.

Acer Windows Mixed Reality Headset Review

Over on The Digital Lifestyle.com I have posted my review with the Acer Windows Mixed Reality Headset. This is Acer’s take on Windows Mixed Reality.

With the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Microsoft introduced support for Windows Mixed Reality, which is Microsoft’s system of Virtual Reality and immersive experiences. Microsoft aren’t making their own mixed reality headsets (other than the enterprise/developer focused Hololens) and have left it to their OEM partners to bring out Windows Mixed Reality headsets.

In this review I am going to focus on the Acer Windows Mixed Reality headset and I will only briefly talk about Windows 10 Mixed Reality environment and apps. If you want to know more about Windows Mixed Reality and see it in action have a look at my review of the Lenovo Windows Mixed Reality headset where I spent some time looking at the OS and apps.
